SENSOPLAN drastically reduces vibration level of turbine-generator by using an innovative approach.

EnBW Altbach - Shaft Vibration
The 581 MVA turbo generator of the EnBW combined heat and power plant (CHP) Altbach/Deizisau, unit 1, located near to Stuttgart/Germany, was stressed by increased vibration levels after lightning disturbances inside the extremely high voltage (EHV) grid close to the power plant. The vibration levels reached thresholds and were not acceptable for long-term operation.

SENSOPLAN analysed the entire turbine-generator shaft including the foundation conditions by means of experimental and analytic simulation procedures. The investigation showed a large spectrum of possible interventions with multifaceted interdependencies.

Hereupon SENSOPLAN developed under consideration of technical and economic aspects a cost-benefit optimized solution which resulted from a wide band of Finite Elements (FE) computations. The SENSOPLAN solution resolved the multiple root causes and could efficiently and successfully be implemented during the last plant outage.

The unit is back in operation and runs at tremendously reduced vibration levels of the turbine generator.
